The Montauk Catamaran Company is a family owned business that builds, owns and operates US Coast Guard certified (Inspected Passenger Vessel) charter catamaran sailboats in Montauk, NY and the surrounding area. Our flagship is the James Wharram designed Tiki 38 Polynesian-inspired double-canoe sailing catamaran S/V Mon Tiki, which began construction in late 2011 and was launched in October, 2012. We invite you to read Montauk Catamaran Company principal Captain David Ryan's blog documenting the building process.
The Montauk Catamaran Company built Mon Tiki from the keel up in Bridgehampton and Montauk, New York, hiring local craftsmen and using low-impact construction methods. Mon Tiki carries a US Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection for up to 49 passengers. She currently runs a full schedule of day sails, sunset cruises, and private charter outings from Star Island Yacht Club at 59 Star Island Road Montauk, NY 11954.
In August, 2014 The Montauk Catamaran Company announced plans to build a second boat, also a James Wharram Polynesian-inspired design. The new boat will be a Pahi 63 ocean-voyaging catamaran called Mon Tiki Largo. When finished this next boat will have a LOA of ~63' and a beam of ~29'. Like Mon Tiki, she will feature an expansive, patio like hardwood deck. But where the square footage of Mon Tiki's deck comes in at just under 500 square feet, this new boat's deck area will be ~1400 square feet. There will be plenty of the relaxed, lounge-style seating you enjoy on Mon Tiki, but we will also have areas with more traditional style seating options for those who need or prefer them. We are expecting a Certificate of Inspection (COI) for at least 80 passengers, and perhaps as many as 100, which will make this new vessel ideal for corporate outings, large family get-togethers, weddings, and other special events. Final approval of build plans submitted to the US Coast Guard Marine Safety Center is imminent, so watch this space for build updates!
